CHOICES  ? ?

TeenagersTake a good look at this picture.

It was the end of high school for the six of us. In another week we would be graduating and looking at a life of our own. Then we would be making choices - some to marry and some to go to college and some to begin work.  What a great weekend party??

A weekend party, you might ask?  Well, to us a party meant music, singing, jokes, great conversation, pop, junk food, pizza.

Yes, we had choices to make. Any of us could have gone to an all-night drinking party or a drinking-and-drug party, but we decided to just have a stay-at-home party.

And yes, we had a lot of fun but, like all parties, it had to come to an end.  Some of us chose to walk home while others caught a ride.

Peggy's choice didn't turn out so well.  She never made it home. She caught a ride with her girlfriend, Julie, who had dropped by from another party where alcoholic beverages had been served.

Peggy had a choice to make.  Maybe the rest of us could have helped her make a better choice, but we didn't. What were the choices?

  • Peggy could have said ``no" to the offered ride but she didn't want to hurt Julie's feelings.
  • Peg could have urged Julie to come to our party instead of the other one.
  • Someone at the other party should have realized that Julie shouldn't have been driving and should have driven her home or insisted that she call a taxi or her parents.

Remember -- we do have choices in life so. . .
